Color n Stuff

I drew up a quick diagram to show something my dear friend Dile has explained to me a few times and I for whatever reason struggled to grasp until last night. The diagram is theoretical and an exaggeration, but still can be applied to life:

If "white" light (light containing equal amounts of every wavelength of light) were to hit a red surface (table) all of the other wavelengths of color would be absorbed MINUS red. Therefore the light that is reflected off of surface 1 (table), hits surface 2 (ball) and appears more saturated, due to the previous wavelengths being absorbed in the table.
